Don Lenker is a native of
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a graduate of Penn State and a practicing
registered architect. He and his wife, Kathleen, reside in Lower Allen
Township where they raised three sons. Don began drawing and painting as
a child under the guidance of his mother, Ivan Lenker, a well known
artist and teacher, and studied watercolor painting under Andrew Case at
Penn State. He has exhibited in local and regional shows and is a
charter member and past president of the Pennsylvania Watercolor
Society. Lenker’s approach to painting is to maintain careful balance between painting outdoors (en plein aire) and studio painting. Painting outdoors sharpens the artist’s eye and makes him aware of the inconsistencies as well as the broad composition that ties all of the elements of nature together. This is true whether painting landscapes in rural Pennsylvania, along the Susquehanna River, city townscapes, sycamore trees, or the seascapes of Cape Ann or Cape Cod. He begins most paintings outdoors, but they are usually completed in his studio. There he applies his vast backlog of knowledge acquired from his plein aire experience to complete the painting Most of Don Lenker’s paintings are watercolor on paper, however, he also creates paintings using acrylic on canvas. His goal – regardless of media, subject matter or painting location – is to create a unique work of art based on a challenging subject. |
